Let's Knit Socks Together (Zoom)
Socks have a reputation: Between heel turns, gusset pickups, that mysterious Kitchener graft at the toe - somewhere along the line "sock knitting" got filed under Scary and Advanced. I'm here to gently un-file it. ANYONE can knit socks if you already know the basic stitches: k, p, k2tog and ssk (ok the slip stitch as well)!
Join me for a live, two-part Knit Sock Class where we make a real pair of shortie socks together, one step at a time with Magic Loop or DPN's (whichever is more comfortable for you, we will learn both), in Círculo's Lucky Feet: a superwash merino sock yarn that wears like iron and feels like a treat. No sock experience required. Just bring your needles and your willingness to be talked through the "wait, what do I do with these stitches?" moments.
Making a shortie sock gets you through the process in these 2 - 90 minute sessions and then when you want your regular socks just lengthen the leg rows.
SESSION 1 — Thursday, August 27 - 6:30 pm (EDT)
• Measuring for a sock that fits YOUR foot - not a generic sock's foot (you become an independent sock knitter)
• A stretchy cast on that slips over your heel with room to spare
• Cuff ribbing and knitting the leg
• The heel flap and heel turn - yes, we finish the heel live, and yes, it's far less terrifying than its reputation
SESSION 2 — Thursday, September 10 - 6:30 pm (EDT)
• Picking up the gusset and shaping it back down to size
• Knitting the foot to your measurement
• Toe decreases
• The Kitchener stitch - grafting a seamless toe like it's no big deal (because with a little guidance, it isn't)
• Learn Judy's Magic Cast On if you decide to start the next pair of socks toe up
Between the two sessions you'll have time to knit at your own pace and revisit the class as you will get the link to the replay the next morning, so nobody's rushed and nothing's left half-done.
Come make socks with me. By the end you'll have a finished pair and - more importantly - the confidence to cast on the next one all on your own.
The class will include written materials for future reference (complete "how to" of key moments and a "how to measure your foot" chart to use again and again).
