MLK Day


On January 15, 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 90 years old had he not been assassinated on April 4, 1968. In 1986 the third Monday in January was made a federal holiday to honor his memory and achievements. Most of us remember Dr. King as a civil rights leader.  He was in fact much more. He was an outspoken opponent of the Vietnam War.  He was a voice for poor people, who had no other voice. He took the baton from Gandhi and was the icon for non-violent activism. During his life Dr. King was beloved and despised. Making his birthday a federal holiday was not without considerable controversy.  But with each passing year is memory grows brighter. His personal shortcomings have become irrelevant
