Knitting VS Crochet: The Similarities and Differences

Knitting Versus Crocheting: What exactly is the difference? Depending on your skills, you may be better suited to learn the tools and methods of one over the other.

When getting into needlework, there are so many options to choose from. Two of the most popular options are crochet and knitting. Over the years there have been many discussions surrounding the similarities and differences between the two. Here at Sheep Thrills, we want you to remember that at the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. How do you know which craft is best for you? How do you decide if you learn to crochet or learn to knit? This post is here to guide you down the right path to making the choice that is best for you.

What is Knitting?

In simpler terms, Knitting is where the crafter uses two needles to create their fabric. Stitches are transferred from one needle to the other and back again to create the weave of the piece. Knitting is built row by row.

What is Crocheting?

Crocheting is where the crafter uses one hook to create its fabric. Crocheters create one stitch at a time using a series of yarn overs and inserting the hook in different areas of their project. Crocheting is built stitch by stitch.
