The Knitted Dollhouse by Sophia Minakais

Meet the author Sophia Minakais on March 17, from 4-8 pm for a book signing and demonstration.

With its unique, one-of-a-kind design, The Knitted Dollhouse brings you a crafting project sure to thrill makers and recipients of every age.

She will also be demonstrating the Modified Bickford Seam, which results in a flat, invisible vertical seam—perfect for anything knit with stockinette stitch (including garments). Bring along 2 stockinette swatches and an extra length of yarn (for seaming), and you will learn this fantastic technique!

The dollhouse stands 12.5” tall, 13” wide and 8” deep. It opens to lay flat, revealing five interior rooms along with a swimming pool surrounded by a lush, green lawn and a garage to hold the family car. There are 33 movable pieces of furniture and a family of five that tuck away inside the house for easy storage and transport.

So gather up your yarn and get ready for a fun evening!

About Sophia Minakais

Sophia first learned the basics of knitting from her dear grandmother, at the age of 8. While grateful for the guidance, she had the antsy boredom shared by most eight-year-olds, so knitting was set aside for a bit.

When she turned 12, her parents gave her a basket full of yarn, needles, videos and books to see if it would, naturally, re-kindle an interest. With no nudging needed, she took flight. She spent hours eagerly pouring over all of the materials in that basket. Thirsting for more knowledge, she used every method available to diligently delve deeper into the craft.

After gaining a firm command of many techniques through self-education and creating numerous gifts for loved ones, she informed her parents that she wanted to start a knitting business. Her desire was to design patterns and she soon launched her online business – Knitting the Natural Way – in 2015.

While she greatly enjoys designing knitwear, toys are one of Sophia’s favorite things to knit. She has designed numerous educational, knitted toy patterns to include a mix ’n match card game to challenge a child’s memory; alpha-numeric blocks that are just the right size for small hands – to teach vowels, consonants, odd and even numbers; geometric shapes, rainbow stacking rings for learning colors and more.

Originally, Sophia’s plan was to publish these and other patterns together, in book format, along with her largest toy pattern – The Knitted Dollhouse. However, when it came time to (self-) publish, it was determined that The Knitted Dollhouse deserved a book all its own.

The dollhouse stands 12.5” tall, 13” wide and 8” deep. It opens to lay flat, revealing five interior rooms (kitchen / living room / parent’s bedroom / two child bedrooms) along with a swimming pool surrounded by a lush, green lawn and a garage to hold the family car. There are 33 movable pieces of furniture and a family of five which tuck away inside the house for easy storage and transport.

Perfect for group knitting, The Knitted Dollhouse is an heirloom project to share with children and grandchildren for countless hours of quality time.
