EWEgene is Filatura Di Crossa's first ever Amigurumi kit and he is so adorable! If you couldn’t tell by the name, EWEgene is a fun little knitted sheep that is super simple to make. For those of you who don’t know, Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting stuffed yarn creatures, dolls, or animals.
EWEgene is a complete kit that includes the needles (DPN’s), toy stuffing, knitted material for the face and body, the eyes, ears, tail, and of course the yarn. This project uses Filatura di Crosa’s “Fluffy” yarn to create the fur for EWEgene. Fluffy is a bulky weight wool-based boucle that easily camouflages any mistakes in the knitting. The fur will serve as a casing for the body and is worked up in the round, similarly to the way in which you would knit a bobble hat. Additionally, the creating of the body is explained in a simple step by step manor complete with picture references!
EWEgene was designed so it could also be a “mommy & me” (or grandma/daddy/grandpa/ etc.) project if you choose it to be. Please note, if a child is going to make a EWEgene, we strongly recommend adult supervision because it requires some sewing or hot gluing to finish (makers choice). Since these kits are all handmade by you, each EWEgene is unique and special in its own way. Whether you intend it to be babies first stuffed animal, keep him for yourself, or even use him as an adorable decoration, EWEgene is sure to put a smile on your face every time you see him.
